Women's Match Headlines Vanuatu Rugby League Festival History will be made on Saturday 11th August at 2:15pm when the Port Vila Powerhouse Women’s Rugby League team takes on the Mele Eels Women’s Rugby League team in the first ever Rugby League game for women in Vanuatu. Home ground advantage will be with the Eels as the game will be played at Mele field, in the capital Port Vila. The game won’t be the only Rugby League on display, with the juniors kicking off at 1:30pm and the final Vanuatu Rugby League Men’s selection trial for the upcoming Rugby League Emerging Nations World Championship following at 3:15pm. Vanuatu Rugby League President Tom Carlo has urged anyone interested in Rugby League or women’s sport to make sure they come down to Mele for what should be a great family day out for the whole family, with free entry. Saturday kicks off a big week for the Vanuatu Rugby League which will see Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Head Coach Lionel Harbin in Port Vila for the festival. Lionel a former English Super League player and Queensland Cup Head Coach will be refereeing the historic women’s game, selecting the national team, running a training camp for the Rugby League Emerging Nations World Championship squad, implementing the Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Community programs and running the first ever Coaching Course for aspiring coaches. Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Head Coach Lionel Harbin stated “It’s going to be a very exciting week for the Vanuatu Rugby League. The Saturday will highlight how far the VRL has come with juniors, women’s and men’s all on the same day and reinforces our investment into our domestic competition. I’m also very much looking forward to launching our Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu Community programs and also upskill our coaches through our first ever training course.
